The North Face Basecamp xl and Mountain Equipment Duffle reviews.

Considering which one to get?

Well the decision is a tough one, but ultimately it depends on what you will be using it for.

I own the 70L Mountain Equipment duffel and it is brilliant. However it isn’t as big as my ancient suitcase that needs replacing. So to replace this I bought a The North Face Basecamp xl. This is a MASSIVE bag, it has no wheels on it but it does have backpack straps, so it is portable; however saying that if the bag is loaded up, then it is heavy-I mean really heavy.

The Mountain equipment bag can take a lot of stuff, and being 70L once loaded it isn’t too heavy. They are tough, mine has been through airports around the world, thrown and kicked no doubt, but it is still in great condition, and for the price easily as good as any The North Face Basecamp bag. I decided to go with TNF for a large bag as the price between the XL bags wasn’t too big, and TNF bag has loads of lashing points along the length of the bag so it can easily be attached to any means of travel, be it a camel, a donkey, a three legged goat or a yak. This was what I liked simply because as this will be a heavy bag, any additional points that can be used to tie the bag will be greatly needed.

So my thoughts are… If you want a MASSIVE bag go for TNF, it is bullet proof and massive, has a great reputation and continues to lead the field, 100l or smaller its the Mountain Equipment all day. It’s a great bag, and is what it is, tough, strong, weatherproof and durable.
